Dr. Kayla Lawrence
Dr. Lawrence grew up in Madisonville, Texas, on a small cattle farm surrounded by a menagerie of livestock and pets. She spent her childhood raising 4-H cattle, goats, rabbits, and chickens, as well as showing Quarter Horses and Paints. These experiences made her realize she wanted to be a veterinarian. From examinations of her childhood pets to assisting cows giving birth during thunderstorms, she was always fascinated by how the veterinary world could help animals.
She attended Texas A&M University, majoring in animal science and minoring in biomedical science, graduating in May 2013. Afterwards, she moved to Virginia and obtained a Master of Science in Education, M.S.Ed., from Old Dominion University in May 2017. She briefly taught high school biology and 7th grade life science before applying to veterinary school to pursue her true passion as a veterinarian.
In May 2024, she graduated from the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine with a DVM degree. While there, she was an active member of many student organizations and the social committee co-chair for the Class of 2024. After graduation, she moved back to Texas.
She is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the Virginia Veterinary Medical Association, the Texas Veterinary Medical Association, and the Tarrant County Veterinary Medical Association. Her special interests include internal medicine, neurology, dentistry, and alternative therapies such as nutraceuticals, laser therapy, and physical rehabilitation.
She has two dachshund mixes named Jake and Zoey and a foster cat named Lyra. She loves dachshunds and working with local and national dachshund rescues. Outside of work, she enjoys Pilates classes, trying out new recipes, horseback riding and showing, and being active in her church and community.
